September 27, Wed., 7 pm, “The Golden Age of Radio,” an evening of radio nostalgia with radio veteran Bob Schultz. Do you remember or have you heard about the days when families sat in the living room “watching’ the radio?

“I have in mind a plan of development which would make radio a ‘household utility’ in the same sense as the piano or phonograph. The idea is to bring music into the home by wireless.”

from a 1916 memo from David Sarnoff to his superiors at American Marconi Co. (later to become Radio Corporation of America.) Sarnoff, a former wireless operator, eventually became president of RCA.

October 15, Sun., 1 pm, “Grand Central,” a free, guided walk through history sponsored by the historical society during the annual Walking WeekendS in the Quinebaug-Shetucket National Heritage Corridor. Nov. 29, Wed., 7 pm, “The Mayflower Compact” with Dr. Lavius Robinson, noted lecturer on the Pilgrims and early Colonial New England. Who wrote the compact and why? Was it a success in keeping law and order? Half of the Plymouth colonists failed to survive that first winter.
